Privacy Policy
This privacy policy applies to the mDevices app
(the "Application") for Android and iOS, published by Trei (the "Service Provider"). mDevices and
mFamily are the same app under two names. The Application is a family location-sharing and device
finder app: it shows where your own devices and the devices of family members you have linked with
are on a private map.
Location
The Application collects the precise location (GPS latitude and longitude, accuracy,
altitude, speed, heading and the time of the reading) of each device you sign in on. This is the core
purpose of the app. It is used to:
- show the device's position on your map and on the map of family members you have linked with;
- find a lost or misplaced device, including one that is offline, from its last known location;
- send an SOS alert with your location to linked family members when you press SOS;
- tell linked family members when a device enters or leaves a place you saved (geofence alerts).
Background location. If you allow location access "All the time" (Android) or
"Always" (iOS), the Application also collects location while it is closed or not in use. It
reports the location about every 30 minutes (your phone's operating system may delay this to save
battery), when you open the app, and when a linked family member asks your device to refresh its
location or ring. The Application explains this and asks for your agreement before it requests
background location permission.
You can stop location collection at any time: change the location permission to "While using the app"
or "Never" in your phone's settings, remove the device from your account in the app, or unlink the
family member. Location is never sent to advertising networks or analytics services, and it is never
sold.
Information the Application collects
- Account information: when you sign in with Google or Apple, your name, email
address, profile photo link and a user ID. If you continue as a guest, only an anonymous user ID
is created.
- Device information: device name, type, manufacturer and model, operating system
version, Android ID, battery level and charging state, storage, memory, processor and sensor
details, network type, mobile carrier name, SIM country and IP address.
- Installed apps (Android): the list of apps that Android lets the Application see
on the device (app name, package name, version and install/update dates), sent with the device
information above.
- Family and care information (mFamily features): the email addresses you send
link requests to, the family members you link with, saved places, SOS alerts, and any medication
reminders, doctor appointments and care notes you add.
- Notification token: a push notification token so the app can deliver alerts and
ring or refresh commands.
- Usage, diagnostics and crash data: screens viewed, app interactions, app version,
crash logs and error reports.
- Advertising ID: used by the advertising networks below for users who have not
bought Premium.
The Application does not read your contacts, messages, call logs, photos, IMEI or SIM serial number.
Who can see your data
- You can see your own devices, their latest location and device details, and their
location history.
- Family members you link with. Linking needs both people: one sends a link request
by email and the other accepts it in the app. Once linked, each person can see the other's devices,
including the latest location, battery level and the device information above, plus SOS alerts,
geofence alerts and shared care information. Either person can unlink at any time from the app,
which stops the sharing straight away.
- The Service Provider stores the data on its own servers to run the app and does
not sell it.
Third-party services
The Application uses the following services, which process data under their own privacy policies:
- Firebase
(Google): sign-in, push notifications, analytics and crash reporting.
- Google AdMob
and Meta Audience Network:
advertising for users without Premium. These receive your advertising ID and ad interaction data,
not your location.
- Meta App Events:
app install and usage events for measuring ads.
- RevenueCat:
processing Premium purchases made through Google Play or the App Store.
- Sign in with Google
or Apple.
The Service Provider may also disclose information when required by law, or when it believes in good
faith that disclosure is needed to protect someone's safety, investigate fraud or respond to a lawful
government request.
Data retention and deletion
- The server keeps each device's latest location, which is replaced by every new report. Location
history records and device information are kept until you remove the device or delete your
account. There is no automatic expiry.
- Remove a device: removing a device in the app deletes that device, its device
information and its location history from the server.
- Delete your account: Profile → Delete Account deletes all your devices, their
location history and your sign-in account.
- To delete everything else (your profile record, family links, saved places, SOS alerts and care
information), or to request deletion without the app, email
trei.mainguy@gmail.com from the email address on your
account. The Service Provider will delete it and confirm by email.
- Data stored only on your phone is removed when you uninstall the app or clear its data.
Children
The Application is not directed at children under 13, and the Service Provider does not knowingly
collect personal information from them. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has
given us personal information, email trei.mainguy@gmail.com
and it will be deleted.
Security
Data is sent to the Service Provider's servers over encrypted connections (HTTPS). The Service
Provider uses physical, electronic and procedural safeguards to protect the information it stores.
